Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — In notices posted on its website, the Office of the Insurance Commission confirmed that it has “received numerous inquiries about Progressive Insurance [Pago Pago] and Oxford Pacific Ins. Mgmt.”
“And many policyholders are wanting to file complaints. Our advice is, you are welcome to stop by our office and file your complaint and complete our complaint form,” the notice said, noting that for an appointment, to call the office at 633 4116, ext 297.
The office, which is under the Governor’s Office, is headed by ASG Insurance Commissioner, Peni ‘Ben’ Itula Sapini Teo, an educator by profession.
There have been concerns circulating in the community of policyholders unable to get information since Progressive closed its office on the second-floor of the Tedi of Samoa building in Fagatogo. And there is no contact information.
News reports out of Samoa in late September this year, say that Progressive Insurance, one of Samoa's largest insurance companies, has filed for bankruptcy in the midst of a drawnout court battle over an unsettled claim.
