Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A resolution conveying the deepest condolences of the Legislature and the people of American Samoa to the Seseparasa family on the passing of former lawmaker Vaamua Henry Sesepasara paying tribute to his service was passed in the House of Representatives this week.
Vaamua was born on March 13, 1947 and he passed on April 11, 2022 at the LBJ Tropical Medical Hospital. He was 75 years old.
After completing his education in American Samoa at Samoana High School (SHS), Vaamua traveled to the United States to continue his studies and seek better opportunities. He attended the Notheast Missouri State College in Kirksville, Missouri and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1970. He then returned back to American Samoa in 1971 to serve his family and his country.
After three years of service at SHS as a science instructor, Vaamua transferred tot he Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources where he served as an Assistant Biologist in 1975. He traveled off island for training and he earned a Certificate of Completion for Marine Resources Management at Oregon State of University.
He served various departments in the government and in 2005, he was bestowed the High Chief Title of Vaamua in the village of Pago Pago. He was active in the village aumaga, the youth and fautasi events where he was captain of the Aeto fautasi.
In 2008 he ran for office and was successfully elected by his district of Maoputasi District #9 as their representative where he served three consecutive terms.
Vaamua wore many hats in the community and was known for his involvement in many community affairs. Vaamua is remembered for his many attributes of love and service to his village, district, community and especially the youth.
