Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Through a Mar. 17 memorandum, Gov. Lemanu Peleti Mauga reconstituted the American Samoa Statistical Advisory Council and announced the appointments of new members.
According to the governor, the functions of the advisory panel include the review of censuses, surveys, and compilation of various statistics subjects; provide assistance with analysis and evaluation of survey results; offer advise for the development and improvement of statistics; and recommend policies, programs, and procedures of statistical activities.
By “virtue of their positions”, the governor appoints Lt. Gov. Talauega Eleasalo Ale, who also board chairman, Secretary of Samoan Affairs, the three district governors, Attorney General, ASG Treasurer, ASCC president and cabinet directors of three government departments and offices.
And based on the recommendation of the Senate President and House Speaker, the governor appointed Sen. Fano M. Shimasaki and Rep. Luaitaua Gene Pene as Fono members to the board.
Private sector members are Solip Hong, Kennedy Nofoagatoto’a and Paul Young. For the Chamber of Commerce, the governor appointed Shanesh Chand.
