Good Friday 2023 is a local holiday

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga has declared April 7, 2023, Good Friday, a holiday in American Samoa in a general memorandum, released yesterday, Monday, April 3.

He says that “all govenment offices will be closed and normal activities will be suspended on that day.

“Employees of the American Samoa Government who are not required to perform essential services shall be excused from their duties.

“Employees required to perform duties on that day will receive holiday wages in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.”

Lemanu noted that “Good Friday is a time to commemorate Jesus Christ's ultimate sacrifice.

“As we reflect upon the Passions of Christ, let us each take a moment to be grateful for the Lord's continued protection and blessings on our Territory.”

He concluded with a thank you to all ASG workers for their “hard work and dedication.”

“Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend,” the governor said.
