Fono fully approves Uiagalelei as election commissioner

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Both the House and Senate this week have given their blessings to Dr Lealofi Uiagalelei to serve as American Samoa’s Election Commissioner for another three year term.

Both chambers confirmed him by unanimous votes following brief confirmation hearings.

Lawmakers praised him for his long public service record, being one of the still active directors from the time of the first locally elected government.

In the House, Vice Speaker, Fetui Fetu Jr acknowledged Dr. Uiagalelei’s long service for the American Samoa Government and the community.

Dr Uiagalelei is a former Director of Education, and former Director of Human and Social Services.

He has been Chief Election Officer since 2015.
