Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The House of Representatives approved this week all seven members of the Feleti Barstow Public Library Board of Directors appointed by Governor Lemanu Sialega P. Mauga in March of this year.
Except for Aitofi Lomu who is off island, six members appeared before the House Public Library Committee this week for their confirmation hearing. All seven members, including Lomu were unanimously approved with a vote of 14-0 each.
The six members appearing for the confirmation hearing were Dr. Ernie Seiuli; Tiara Drabble; Faailoa Seui Afalava; Tuimalo Elvis Zodiacal; Louise Kuaea and Beverly A. Kodak.
During their confirmation hearing, which lasted only ten minutes, faille congratulated members of the board for accepting the call from the Governor to serve the public library as board members.
Rep. Titiali’i Kitara Vaiau advised board members to look into ways to upgrade the services of the Feleti Public Library for students and everyone to use.
Rep. Vaetasi Tuumolimoli Saena Moliga said that there is a need for new computers and new books for students to use and if they came across any idea or new plan to raise the standard of the public library, it’s their duty is to utilize it.
In his Mar.4, 2021 letter to the Fono, Gov. Lemanu said he’s confident that the new board of directors will serve the Feleti Barstow Public Library with all their heart.
The Director of Education or his or her designee is automatically a member of the Feleti Barstow Public Library without appointment of the Governor or confirmation by the Fono. Director Talauega Dr. Samasoni Asaeli has selected Dr. Teresa Atuatasi to be his designee.
(The Senate confirmed the board back in March of this year.)
