‘Entitled’ brother allegedly assaults sister for not cooking his breakfast

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On May 27, 2025, an individual contacted the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) to report that her brother allegedly assaulted their sister after she refused to make him breakfast.

The suspect was later apprehended and charged with:

Count 1: Assault in the Third Degree (DV), a class A misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of $1,000, or both imprisonment and fine; and,

Count 2: Private Peace Disturbance (DV), a class C misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to fifteen days, a fine of $300, or both.

The defendant’s bail was set at $1,000.

Court records stated that on May 27th, around 10:00 a.m., an individual (the reporter) contacted the TPS for assistance. The reporter stated that her brother, Wendell Unasa (the suspect) assaulted her sister (victim).

Police officers responded to the call and upon arrival at the scene, they encountered the victim at her sister’s house, where she verbally briefed the officers about the matter.

According to the victim, the suspect got mad at her for not cooking breakfast for him. He started yelling profanities at her in Samoan, and followed her into her room where he grabbed and pulled her hair and then slapped her face with an open fist. She fell down and stood back up but the suspect slapped her again on the opposite side of her face.

The victim continued that she fought and pushed him off so she could run towards her sister for help and to contact the police station.

The officers proceeded to the suspect’s house where he was observed in the dining room and was immediately apprehended. He was taken to the TPS for further investigation.

Upon arrival at the station, the suspect was Mirandized to which he understood and agreed to provide the authorities with a written statement.

The defendant is identified as a 52-year-old citizen of Samoa.
