Enhancing patient care, Faipule Tapai Vaivao donates handheld 'vein finder' devices to LBJ

Faipule Tapai Ala’ilepule Benjamin Vaivao hands over devices

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The LBJ Tropical Medical Center (LBJTMC) is proud to announce the generous donation of three Hand Held Vein Finder devices by Faipule Tapai Ala’ilepule Benjamin Vaivao, who serves as a dedicated member of the American Samoa House of Representatives, representing District 10 Ma’oputasi #4.

These Handheld Vein Finder devices will greatly elevate the quality of patient care throughout the medical center, particularly emphasizing pediatric care in critical areas such as the emergency room, pediatric ward, and intensive care unit where they will be distributed.

Vein Finder devices are invaluable tools utilized by healthcare professionals to locate veins for various medical procedures, including venipuncture, intravenous therapy, and blood draws. For pediatric patients, especially, these devices offer a non-invasive and child-friendly means of identifying veins, minimizing discomfort and anxiety associated with medical procedures.

Reflecting on his grandchildren’s experiences, Faipule Tapai Vaivao was moved to make this donation, stating, "During the holidays two of my grandchildren were admitted in the LBJ Pediatrics ward.

“Both needed to get their blood drawn and insert IV for treatment.

“We were grateful for the effort of the phlebotomists and nurses in successfully locating the vein, but it was not until after they were poked several times causing extreme discomfort for both children in failed attempts with trying to locate their small veins.

“This experience inspired this donation to bring comfort and make drawing blood for not just children but everyone just a little easier with the help of the vein locator device with just one successful attempt.”

Chairman of the LBJTMC Board, Dr. Malouamaua Tuiolosega, also remarked, "We are deeply appreciative of Representative Vaivao's generosity in providing these essential medical tools, especially for our pediatric patients.

“This donation emphasizes his commitment to the well-being of our community and will directly benefit them by improving their healthcare experiences."

CEO of LBJTMC, Dr. Akapusi Ledua, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of the donation for patient care outcomes.

"The addition of Handheld Vein Finder devices donated by Representative Vaivao serves as a powerful reminder that by coming together and supporting one another, we can achieve limitless possibilities in enhancing healthcare delivery. We deeply appreciate his generous support."

LBJTMC remains devoted to leveraging innovative technologies and partnerships to deliver compassionate and effective healthcare in our community.
