Election Office issues list of polling stations and other info and instructions

American Samoa Election Office

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Chief Election Officer Uiagalelei Lealofi has designated 41 polling stations territory-wide for electors to cast ballots during the Nov. 08 Midterm Election for American Samoa’s Non-Voting Delegate to the U.S House, the 20-elected faipule for the local House of Representatives and the eleven proposed amendments on the territory’s Constitutional referendum.

UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES

Responding to Samoa News inquiries, Uiagalelei confirmed yesterday that voters still need to vote for the Congressional race, even though incumbent Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata — whose name appears on the ballot as “Aumua Amata — is running unopposed.

And this is the same for the five incumbent faipule for the local House race, who are running unopposed and voters for these districts will still need to cast their votes.

POLLING STATIONS

Uiagalelei — in accordance with local election law — issued the official notice last week designating election polling stations, which, as in past election years, are mostly church halls and a few Samoan guest fale, as well as a handful of government facilities.

“All polling places are safe and secure for the November 8, 2022 Election,” said Uiagalelei, who expressed appreciation to the Office of Samoan Affairs for their assistance along with the Department of Public Safety.

The designated polling stations are published, through a paid Election Office advertisement in today’s Samoa News and are also attached below.

OTHER ELECTION ISSUES

Uiagalelei officially proclaimed in August this year, that the 2022 Midterm Election for American Samoa will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 from 6a.m to 6p.m, at designated polling places in Representative Districts throughout the Territory.

Election Office officials said yesterday that each polling place will count their own ballots for Congressional and local House races as well as the Constitutional referendum. Once the counting is completed, the results will be called into the Election Office, where the results will then be reviewed by the Chief Election Officer and announced on KVZK-TV.

For local and overseas absentee ballots, all ballots will be sorted to each polling station to be counted. For Swains Island voters, their polling place will be at the Election Office as they vote for the Congressional delegate and the referendum issues.

For poll workers, training is all completed, and they are being sworn in this week as poll workers and will cast their local absentee ballot.
