Community Search & Rescue efforts for Suatipatipa Su’a unsuccessful

Searchers looking for Suatipatipa Su’a

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On December 18, 2023, upon receiving word from the media that the search had been called off for Suatipatipa Su’a, his family decided to continue the search and assist in any way they could.

A post circulating social media — over the following days — revealed a call to the community to aid in the search initiated by his family in hopes of finding answers regarding Suatipatipa’s disappearance. His mother, religious leaders, siblings, family, friends, and villagers searched the land and coastlines of Vaitogi for any sign of Suatipatipa. Drones were also used by the family to comb the areas above land.

Unfortunately, the search done by family and friends was deemed unsuccessful as additional belongings for the young man were not found.

In a social media post, Suatipatipa’s father commented that his family is grateful for the efforts of the government, the media, and friends who have shown support during this time. He especially thanks the Search and Rescue (SAR) Team for all the hard work they have done. His father who is currently seeking medical treatment off island is devastated that he is not present during this difficult time but will be making his swift return to reunite with his family.

Since receiving word of his disappearance, Suatipatipa’s mother, siblings, family, and friends have been at the site where he was last seen. They have been hoping and praying to find him or any additional information leading to his disappearance.

Social media posts reveal his heart of gold, his loyalty as a friend, and his compassion and selflessness towards those who were overlooked and often unheard. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran and is loved by many.

Suatipatipa’s family has not lost hope and are waiting for an official update regarding the search and rescue.

Samoa News offers their heartfelt condolences to Suatipatipa’s family and friends.
