CFO: LBJ Hospital doing its best with what it’s got

During a recent cabinet meeting, LBJ Medical Center chief financial officer Pauline Gebauer announced that LBJ “is moving along, doing its very best” with what it has to operate with. She also said that its been almost three years since she has been with the hospital, and “this is the best that we’ve performed taking care of our budget, [and] paying our bills.”

And she thanked US Interior Department, ASG Medicaid Office, American Samoa Economic Development Authority and other ASG entities for their support to LBJ, which is “doing well” financially.

Gebauer didn’t provide any specific financial data on LBJ “doing well” but she did note that LBJ Chief Executive Officer Taufete’e John Faumuina could share that information in a future cabinet meeting when he returns to the territory.

The LBJ CFO said the hospital is doing well because it has implemented cost containment measures and continues to maintain them, and “we have seen some savings.” While Taufete’e can speak more on LBJ’s forecast, Gebauer said, “I can tell you, we have done our cost containment, and we continue, and its showing good yield and good savings.”
