BYU doctors are here with free heart screening for kids

Rheumatic Heart Disease screening

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Health Department began distributing this poster photo on social media promoting, “Free Heart Screening for all kids ages 4 years and older.” The Brigham Young University Rheumatic Heart Disease Relief Team is back and this time for two whole weeks.

The team is providing heart screenings starting today, Friday, Aug. 26 to Sept. 7 at designated sites.

“This screening is to find kids with leaky heart valves due to Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD). Your child may have RHD and not know it. Early screening and treatment will protect their hearts from further damage and heart failure,” said DoH. Parents are asked to come bring your children and sign their consent forms.”

Call 633-4008 or 633-7733 for more information and the updated location sites for the free heart testing. Also check DoH Facebook page.
