ASPA commissions new GE generator increasing supply security

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) power generation crews are working on commissioning a new GE generator for the Tafuna Power Plant.

According to ASPA, one of the two new GE generators will now be supplying power from Tafuna along with three Cummins engines that will help ensure security of supply for the west side of Tutuila island.

Currently, power from Satala is being used to supply energy needs for the west side of Tutuila along with the temporary CAT units located outside of the Tafuna Power Plant.

“Once the 2 GE’s and 3 Cummins engines are in full operation, the supply security needs to avoid blackouts and transferring of power from Satala to the west side will be minimal,” said ASPA.

The authority points out that the GE engines and the Cummins engines were installed by ASPA power generation employees. “No contractors or outside help was needed. The fruits of local capacity and well trained staff,” it says in information posted with the photo.
