Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Teacher Education Department (TED) of the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) hosted its second annual Senior Night, on Thursday, March 27, 2025. It was held at the ASCC Multipurpose Center from 5pm - 7pm.
The purpose of this event was to educate high school seniors and juniors about the available degree programs and the opportunities/ benefits of attending our local community college.
The program started with an opening prayer from Sãlevai Misa, a current ASCC student, education major and Vice President of the Lumana’i Educators’ Association (LEA).
ASCC-TED Chair Dr. Feleni Alainu’uese gave the opening remarks to welcome the attendees and their parents.
ASCC-TED Core Faculty Ms. Moresa Langkilde explained the program layout, which included the featured booths for the evening — ASCC Financial Aid office, ASCC Admissions office, ASCC College Accelerated Preparatory Program (CAPP), ASCC Student Government Association (SGA) and ASCC extracurricular clubs: House of Flying Daggers, Lumana’i Educators’ Association and IMPACT.
The attendees were split into color coded groups. There were seven rotations and each group spent 15 minutes at each booth.
Mariana Fuiava, who is a Senior at Tafuna High School said she “was so surprised to learn from the Financial Aid booth that attending ASCC for an AA degree is so much more cheaper compared to off island schools; and she also enjoyed the activities prepared by the clubs. This is Mariana’s second Senior Night. She attended ASCC-TED’s first Senior Night that was held last year in March during her junior year.
The ASCC-MPC was filled with laughter, fellowship, interactive hands-on activities, and engaging conversations amongst the presenters and participants.
Raffle prizes were drawn throughout the evening, with the grand prize, an office desk and chair, donated by GIAS.
