ASCC faculty and staff at assembly

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Lt. Governor Talauega E. V. Ale in his role as Acting Governor emphasized the profound impact of educators to guide the younger generation during a general assembly to welcome back faculty and staff for the new academic year at American Samoa Community College, on Monday, Aug. 14.

A press release from the Governor’s Office noted that the assembly not only marked the beginning of a new academic year but also focused on the importance of resilience, mentorship, and tackling critical issues such as drug prevention in American Samoa.

In his address, Talauega highlighted the pivotal role that educators play in shaping the future of individuals and the society as a whole, saying, "You are not merely administrators, faculty, or staff – you are architects of dreams, cultivators of potential, and mentors of resilience,” encapsulating the profound impact that educators have on students' lives, molding their aspirations, fostering their growth, and instilling in them the ability to overcome challenges.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the youth, Talauega talked about the urgency of addressing the drug problem that affects American Samoa. He stressed the need for educators, parents, and the community to come together and provide a strong support network that guides the younger generation away from harmful temptation. He urged, “Do not give up the fight for our students and the future of American Samoa.” He closed his remarks wishing the administrators, faculty, and staff a successful school year.

ASCC will commence student registration today, Wednesday, August 16, 2023 for new students only, with registration continuing on August 17- 18, 2023 for general registration.
