Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — In a brief statement, the American Samoa Power Authority announced the drop in the cost per kilowatt- hour (kWh) for the October 2020 bill “due to the continued drop in fuel prices over the last 7 months.”
“As the cost of diesel fuel drops so will the cost of the electricity,” said ASPA, noting that since March to the current billing month of October, there has been a 26% drop in the "fuel surcharge" portion of the electric rate, from $0.23185 to $0.17133.
The current Residential "System Rate" per killowatt-hour for October 2020 is $0.26873 compared to March 2020 which was $0.32925, an 18% drop for residential customers.
“With the uncertainty of the fuel markets and the current COVID-19 pandemic, we hope the rates continue to drop,” according to ASPA, which again reiterated that any savings from drops in the price of diesel fuel will be passed on to customers.
