American Samoa’s plans for the USA semi-quincentennial celebration

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — An executive order issued Jan. 31, established the America250 Commission of American Samoa, to plan the territory’s events for the USA’s semi-quincentennial celebration.

The governor’s order states the Commission was established "to coordinate observances and activities to commemorate the anniversary of our nation's founding”.

Through a series of inclusive events, educational programs, and cultural initiatives, the Commission aims to unite communities, foster pride, and inspire the next generation of leaders.

The commission comprises the Governor, or his Designee, and the following directors:

  • American Samoa Community College
  • American Samoa Council on Arts, Culture, & Humanities
  • American Samoa Department of Commerce
  • American Samoa Department of Education
  • American Samoa Department of Parks and Recreation
  • American Samoa Historical Preservation Office
  • American Samoa Visitors Bureau
  • Feleti Barstow Public Library
  • Jean P Haydon Museum
  • Office of Archives and Records Management
  • Office of Samoan Affairs
