American Samoa youth rowers arrive in Turkey for World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals

Carneal Lilio- Satele and Tupulua Vaouli

Pago Pago, American Samoa — The American Samoa Rowing Association (ASRA) proudly announces the arrival of its young rowing stars, Carneal Lilio- Satele and Tupulua Vaouli, in Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday, as they gear up to represent their island nation on the global stage at the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals.

Accompanied by coaches Paula and Michael McDonald, the athletes touched down in the scenic coastal city of Antalya, ready to compete in the Under-19 (U19) Beach Sprint Championships. This marks a historic milestone for American Samoa rowing, with Mr. Lilio-Satele and Ms Vaouli set to race in the U19 solo sprint events — a fast- paced, 250-meter dash on the beach that tests speed, endurance, and technique in shallow waters as well as a mixed-double sprint.

"We are thrilled to see our youth athletes step into this international arena," said ASRA Coach Paula McDonald. "Carneal and Tupulua embody the spirit of resilience and determination that defines our Samoan community. They are poised to make waves — literally — at this prestigious event."

The 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, hosted by World Rowing from November 3-9, gathers elite rowers from around the world for a unique blend of ocean rowing and beach athletics. The U19 categories highlight emerging talents, providing a platform for young competitors to showcase their skills in a dynamic, spectator-friendly format. Lilio-Satele and Vaouli's participation underscores ASRA's commitment to developing grassroots talent and promoting water sports in the Pacific region.

The duo has undergone rigorous training in American Samoa's challenging coastal waters, honing their strokes and building mental fortitude. Their journey to Antalya represents not just personal achievement but a beacon of inspiration for aspiring rowers back home.
