American Samoa receives $3.2 Million in federal public health funding

Washington, D.C. — Samoa is the recipient of a discretionary grant of $3,245,016 for the local Department of Health aimed at strengthening public health — both infrastructure and workforce.

Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata welcomed this week’s federal funding notification from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

 “Thank you to Ben Sili and anyone else involved with this project moving forward or the effort to qualify for the grant,” said Congresswoman Amata.

This health services grant is from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a federal agency within HHS. HHS is led by Secretary Xavier Becarra, and CDC is led by Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

“Thank you to HHS and CDC for this support,” Amata concluded. “Congratulations to Governor Lemanu Mauga, Lt. Governor Talauega Ale, and Director Motusa Nua for their roles in leading these efforts and obtaining federal funds.”
