Washington, D.C. — This past week, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed House passage of two legislative actions she co-sponsored to strengthen the key diplomatic, economic and security relationship between the United States and Israel.
The House passed the bipartisan United States-Israel Cooperation Enhancement and Regional Security Act, H.R. 1837, which she co-sponsored. Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL), who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Ethics, introduced the bill, and led a bipartisan Congressional Delegation to Israel and the region in early July.
Congresswoman Amata was part of this bipartisan visit that included spending time with U.S. troops on the 4th of July, and a detailed foreign policy fact-finding, educational visit to Israel, Jordan and Qatar.
This visit included meeting government officials in Qatar and Israel, touring important sites, discussion of U.S.-Israel relations, and insight into the security and economic status of the region to inform and add perspective to future congressional policy considerations.
The House also overwhelmingly passed H. Res. 246, which Amata co-sponsored as well. This Resolution specifically expresses the sense of the House opposing efforts to delegitimize the State of Israel, and opposing the Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement targeting Israel.
“I’m pleased to co-sponsor these sensible, bipartisan efforts to strengthen relations with the State of Israel, which has been a reliable ally of the United States,” said Amata. “Israel is important to the region’s stability, prosperity and the cause of freedom.”
