Amata and CODEL take part in policy meetings in Lithuania

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Aumua Amata and colleagues met President Gitanas Nauseda in Lithuania, and held discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis, Speaker of the Seimas (Parliament) Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, members of the parliament, and U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania Robert S. Gilcrest.

Lithuania — considered by the U.S. as one of the Baltic States and is adjacent to Poland — is the second of five nations visited by the Congressional Delegation (CODEL) of Members of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and led by Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif).

As determined by each destination, the CODEL prioritized historic U.S. Veterans’ sites throughout the week leading to Memorial Day, visited U.S. military, as well as meetings related to foreign policy, national security, and services to veterans abroad.

“These were productive and informative discussions,” said Uifa’atali. “Of interest, I increasingly notice women in high level leadership, including the Speaker in Lithuania, with implications for broader opportunities for the next generations.”
