Am Samoa Department of Health issues respiratory diseases alert

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — With COVID-19, RSV, and Influenza on the rise in American Samoa, the American Samoa Department of Health (ASDOH) is advising the community to take important precautions to keep yourself and your family safe after the American Samoa Department of Health (ASDOH) has noted an increase in community transmission of Respiratory Diseases.

• Sanitize your hands regularly or wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

• Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow, dispose of tissues in a covered dustbin and wash hands afterwards. Wearing a mask is also advisable if regularly coughing and sneezing and the presence of children.

• Clean and disinfect all frequently touched surfaces using disinfectants that are effective against COVID-19.

• Stay home when sick and avoid large gathering or close contact with friends, families, and work mates.

• Open windows to let fresh air in to improve air circulation.

• Do daily health screening on all children and family members.

• Vaccinations are available at the Tafuna Health Center.

• Stay updated on local health guidance regarding respiratory diseases.

“By staying vigilant and following the guidance shared, we can work together to keep everyone safe and healthy,” the health department release said.
