$2 Million project soon to be completed

Construction site where airport extension is going on

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Paramount Builders Inc., construction crew working on the roof of the arrival terminal building for the covered extension project at Pago Pago International Airport on Sept. 29th.

This part of the arrival terminal expansion, which began with the installation more than a year ago of a new conveyer belt system at the passenger arrival area, included replacement of edge beams due to the age and deterioration of the existing building, according to a Port Administration presentation at last week’s cabinet meeting.

“By that time, we were in the midst of COVID-19 and the measles epidemic. This created the need for more space to allow for additional passenger procedures and to allow social distancing within the facility,” according to the presentation.

The entire $2 million project, funded by local revenues, is expected to be completed in November.
