Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Meleagi Suitonu-Chapman has declared herself as a candidate in the November mid term election for the American Samoa Delegate’s seat in the U.S House of Representatives. This is her fifth try for the Delegate’s seat in Washington D.C.
In a statement late last week to Samoa News announcing her candidacy, Suitonu-Chapman sys she is from the beautiful Village of Fitiuta-Leusoali’i of Ta’u, Manu’a. Her parents were Reverend Elder Suitonu and Tinei So’otuli Lei’ataua-Eseese Suitonu. And her husband is James Neil Chapman, and the couple have made their home in Manu’a since April 6, 2001.
“My wanting to represent our U.S Territory of American Samoa has always been my passion and desire to better our home for our people, government, and Veterans,” she said.
“ As your representative, I promise to work hard for all the pertinent needs of our home, welfare, health, education, safety, and so much more,” she explained.
“I believe I can and will accomplish all more for you because it is simple. I value each one of you. We are American Samoa, beautiful, surreal, brilliant, and more! Remember, no manufactured disease can ever knock us down. We have and will always persevere with our Faith and each other,” she said.
On Nov. 8, she asks for your vote “to accomplish what you, our government, our Veterans, and I want recognition, support, acknowledgment, fairness, VOTE4MELEAGI.”
She recalled what a well-educated mentor taught her, “Humans are not driven by the Past. We’re Pulled forward by the future we’re most committed to…”
She declared that, “you, each of you, our government our veterans… that is WHO I am committee to, You”.
The Election Office announced in late May this year that candidate’s nomination petitions and material for the 2022 Midterm Election will be available at the Election Office in Tafuna from June 15 to Sept. 1. American Samoa registered voters go to the polls on Nov. 8 to elect a Delegate to the US House as well as 20 faipule in the local House. (See Samoa News edition June 2 for mid-term election details.)
