“BAD EXPERIENCES AT THE LOCAL POST OFFICE”

Dear Editor,

Not too long ago, I was badly harassed and screamed at outside the Post Office, in the parking lot. I happened to park in a marked spot. I was inside the car (pick-up), my engine was running, and there was no space available at the time. Then I heard someone screaming and talking very loud and nasty to me. It was an older gentleman in a postal service uniform just cussing at me for parking there. I said I would move. But screaming and yelling at me was just uncalled for.

This past week, I went to pick-up my mail as usual at the back of the post office; and the lady giving out mail said to me, “I am sorry, I don't know you and I can't give you your mail. You have to speak to somebody in the front.”

I have been using this mailbox for the last 40 years, and it is the first time I have been confronted with this kind of attitude from a post office worker. She was not very nice to me. I simply asked if maybe she could get somebody who knows me, and she said to me, “Don’t tell me how to do my job.” I went home without my mail. I wanted to see the Post Master, but she was not there.

I am sure there are a lot of situations like these at the post office, but our people are very nice, they don’t speak up. Well,  I  am speaking out or up - whatever you call it.

Customers shouldn't be treated like this by public servants. We are the reason they work there, or they wouldn't have a job. How quickly they forget their duty to us, the people.

That was my bad experience at the local Post Office.

I am still looking to speak to the Post Master; she was always very polite and understanding.

I could be very loud and perhaps angry, but I know it will not solve the problem by being like the Post Office employee — the way she treated me.

I am not a young person and I really didn't have to be treated the way I was treated. I just simply want and wish that we treat each other nicely. Now I still have to go back to pick-up my mail. My priority mail that I paid a lot of money to be sent to me faster.
